A legislative vote is about to redefine what it means to be a psychologist in Greece

A legislative vote is about to redefine what it means to be a psychologist in Greece.

A draft law currently under public consultation would establish a Panhellenic Association of Psychologists as a public-law legal entity (ν.π.δ.δ.) — replacing today's voluntary professional association with a single, publicly binding body that has real disciplinary authority over all licensed psychologists.

This matters because Greece has long operated with two parallel, non-binding codes of ethics and no unified enforcement mechanism — a gap that has made accountability inconsistent across the profession.

For anyone interested in the background, this fragmentation is explored in more depth in a chapter on the Code of Ethics for Greek psychologists, in "Ethical Issues in Psychology and Mental Health" (IPSY Editions, ed. Tania Anagnostopoulou).

The consultation is open until October 2 — worth reading, and worth weighing in on.
